Okay, I wanted to read it, I loved the original series Kitchen Gods, but I had really trouble to focus on the story. Somehow I wasn't getting the who's who right and felt overwhelmed by the amount of names. This is a personal issue of mine and doesn't reflect the book at all. I am a mood reader after all, and somehow I just didn't seem to get into the story.Why four stars then? Well, I procrastinated for a week and forced myself to pick it up again and again when I rather spent time online doing something else. Yes, it starts slow, it's the first in this series and the main characters fight their attraction as hard as I was fighting to read it. Tony is living in the guest house of his brother Wyatt and Wyatt's husband Ryan. He co-owns a food truck and works on the truck with his friend Jeremy. So when he meets Lucas at his brother's house he thinks his brother is setting him up. So yes, I juggled five names around in my head and I had the weird feeling that I had read about a couple with those names before. But it didn't click until Napa was mentioned. Then it all slipped into its place. By chapter tweve I was in the right head space and the narrative had picked up. Things were happening, the mood changed to just the right amount of angst and the supporting characters finally got to play their parts in this "who's dunit?" that was maybe obvious from the get go. The magic thing happened, Lucas and Tony went into time out and thought and talked (yep, that silly pet peeve of mine) eventually, knowing that they were ready to be serious about their relationship. So that extra star of this three star read was for the drama before the end. I am off to read book two while I am in this happy reading mood. I love Beth Bolden's books, they are always at the top of my must read list. After reading the Kitchen Gods series, I was so excited for Tony to get his own story, as well as catch up with the whole Kitchen Gods crew. I love how full of life Tony is but he has also always had this sadness around him in previous books so I was so excited to see that he has finally found happiness not only with his family but also with Lucas. Both Tony and Lucas have faced challenges in their lives that makes it hard for them to open up to others. While neither plans on calling for the other, they are both drawn to the other immediately. Unfortunately, Lucas' background is one all too common to the LGBTQ community but I loved the strength he had to create this amazing life for himself and I loved that he finally found his true family. It was sweet seeing them find their way to their HEA, even if they weren't really sure what it would look like. I loved all the side characters in the Food Truck Warriors world and can't wait to see more from this crew.
