Hit the Brakes is a very good continuation of the Food Truck Warriors series.I enjoyed seeing characters from the first book and the Kitchen Gods series. I haven't read the Riptide series yet, but it moved up on my TBR list after reading Hit the Brakes.I've been interested in Tate since reading Kiss and Tell and am quite pleased with his story.The tropes are some of my favorites, and the author keeps them fresh and new with interesting settings, quirky characters, good dialogue, and some steamy sexy times.The back story was just enough to show me where they came from without being too much.There is angst, but there is also humor, grouchiness, and food for which I would love to have the recipes.Watching Chase and Tate relearn each other and move into a more intimate and emotional relationship is lovely to see. Their different personalities mesh well, filling the empty spaces in each other and making them stronger together.I look forward to more from this author. There is nothing better than when your crush has a crush on you, too." — UnknownFor ten years, Tate Ward has carried a torch for Chase Riley, the boy he fell for in their high school home economics class. Even though Tate has followed Chase’s football career, he has never reached out to him. When Chase surprises Tate by turning up at his food truck, Tate is overwhelmed. In a fit of compulsiveness, Chase posts to come to his boyfriend’s food truck. This admission shocks everyone because they thought that Chase was straight. When Tate finds out that Chase did this before even checking with him, he is angry. Chase apologizes but he’s created a situation now that has to be remedied. To save face Chase asks Tate if he would be willing to pretend to be his boyfriend. Reluctantly, Tate agrees, hoping he can resist what he wants most, not to be Chase’s fake boyfriend but his real one.Instead of being honest with each other, Chase and Tate pretend not to be interested in each other which causes a lot of angst and tension that need not be. It takes a while, but they both come to their senses and admit that their fake feelings are not fake at all. Thanks, Beth, for another great addition to the ‘Food Truck Warriors’ series.
